Meet Me In The Mourning

2024

Meet Me In The Mourning is my BFA thesis that centers around the communal love and support that is integral to healing from deep loss and mourning; stepping away from the epicenter of recent loss into a more familiar relationship to grief is at the heart of this collection of images. Drawing heavily from cultural mourning practices, this body of work looks upon the shape of absence, the space it takes and holds on to within the everyday. With this in mind, I aimed to create an installation featuring varying photographic techniques and sculptural forms, including a sound piece, collectively illustrating grief’s ability to spill into the surrounding landscape: following in one's wake and hunting them, not as a ghost of perpetual sorrow, but rather as an imprint of those moments, melodies, and memories holding specific love and intimacy that is no longer with us.
