Ruby Gauchman is a New York based artist and environmentalist who recently graduated with a BFA in Photography from SUNY Purchase. Her work takes root in a lens based practice that finds form in three dimensional space. From family history to the identities impressed upon us, Ruby questions the elements that define our roles in life, often bouncing between the processing of a specific defining moment and the exploration of a larger, more universal experience. She finds herself elevating moments of the mundane into depictions of divinity. Her practice is born from experimentation and exploration, evolving as she moves through time and space. For Ruby, art making is an exercise of questioning and contextualizing — placing knowledge within a larger tapestry of information.
